Evaluate the nature of design in a specific industry context


1)    In your opinion how important is it for mobile applications and devices to both look good and function properly? Comment on both the attractiveness of the software and the hardware.

In my opinion it is important for mobile applications and devices to both look good but also function properly. If it doesn’t look good then it won’t appeal to me or the target audience but if it doesn’t function properly then people will not use it and spread posts and reviews about how good the product is.

2)     Who designed the iPad? Was it an individual or team? In your opinion, do people use this device because it looks good or because it functions well? Or does it do both?

The Apple inc team designed and developed the iPad. I honestly don’t know if people use this device because it looks good or because it functions well. I do like the sleekness of the ipad but over all I love the look of laptops even to computers. I am more used to the look, feel and functionality of the laptops and I can easily find my way around and use a laptop much better then I can use a desktop.

3)      How has the iPad changed the way some businesses function? Can you find examples of where businesses have implemented the iPad into their day-to-day activities?

photographers such as wedding photographers take an ipad with their photos uploaded onto it to show clients that they meet out of the office what work they do and the quality of their work. Which I suppose is an improvement then taking a thick heavy folder with all your pictures with you everywhere.

4)      Overall, what other major flaws of this type of technology? Can you think of anyways in the future that this hardware will be improved to the point where it will compete with desktop and laptop computers?

-limited capacity  of harddrive space
-cant personally modify the ipad
-compatibility problems

5)      How do you think the iPad could help your day-to-day workflow? Are the answers straightforward? Is it more a case of combining this technology with others that already exist?

on the go I think it would be ok to use and would help because you can’t exactly take a desktop or a laptop everywhere. Though for in office or home use I would still use a laptop or a desktop.

6)      Consider the following–has the iPad shaped the way we do business? Or has business and technology shaped the way Apple developed the iPad?

No, the ipad isn’t based on other peoples software or specs. It is based on apples design and technology. All the applications are based on apples operating system.

7)      Is the iPad and tablets in general a passing fad? Or do you think this type of technology is here to stay long-term?

I don’t think it is a passing fad.  I think doctors will still use this ipad for patients charts and xrays , as well as the photographers using them in out of office meetings

8)      Conduct a discussion with the whole class and determine based on the general consensus the pros and cons of tablet-based technology.



9)        Many people say that the iPad is an unnecessary piece of hardware caught in limbo between a laptop and mobile phone. Do you think this consensus is accurate. Do you think that your answer could be different in five years time?

I am honestly not sure. And I believe that the technology of the ipad will have developed further in 5 years time

 Reading the body text:
·      Does the copy get to the point quickly?

Yes it does, but it is a bit negative and not very convincing.

·      Is the copy shy about the offer or incentive?

No, but they are going about it the wrong way.

·      Is it easy to respond to?

not really it doesn’t have a link to the sign up page.

·     Does the copy overcome every objection to replying, leaving the reader with no choice but to act?

yea the act to close the page and walk away :/

·     Does the copy use simple words?

Yes it does but not simple that you make the reader feel like they are reading a kiddy book.

·     Does the copy use active language (does it address the site visitor as ‘you’)?

Yes it does but it doesn’t address you until the second paragraph.

·      Is the copy broken down into simple sections and bullet points?

 No bullet points but it is broken up into paragraphs and each paragraph talks about a specific thing.

  • fix the title-make it straight and up the top of the page. keep the colour the same though
  • brighten up the other colours of the page
  • have the new products on a table in the middle of the page
  • have rays of sun light coming out from behind the new products

  • have the words : 'limited', 'noisy', 'unattractive'   and 'eye sore' around the old product
  • around the new products have : ' New Look', 'New Feel', 'New Scent', 'New Technology'

Pros: It seems to circulate through the house better than previous products.
Pros: Scent smells great and is continuous. Home smells fresh.
Pros: Automatically sprays, timer.
Pros: Easy to assemble, mount & use, good idea for bathrooms/small areas of constant use.
Cons: The spray sound can be startling.
Cons: scent doesn't linger, can be expensive,can't spray on demand.
Cons: Limited range of scents.
Cons: After a while you cant smell the scents.
Cons: Little white colour structure sticks out to easily.

Week 3 With David

 After a demonstration from our teacher on colourising a grey scale image incorporating the brush tool, brush size, layers, colour selection, opacity and layer mode we used realistic colour, to colour the grey scale image given to us by our teacher. Then we were asked to repeat the process with your own selected black and white images.

Week 2 With David

In week 2 we were asked to fiddle around with photo shop to see what we could do. Exploring Photoshop by using as many of the tools you have discovered from a work sheet that was handed out in class, we had to create the weirdest most bizarre image we could.


I decided to use the sample picture off tulips that usually come with computers.

This is an effective form of advertisement because of the use of effective use of the illusion that the oranges are piled in the back of the truck, its looks life like and would definitely make you do a double take when driving down the road.

This is an effective advertisement because the young girl, eating a cockroach with the caption above her head reading, "kissing a smoker is just as gross" is effective because it compares the unhealthiness, unhygienic, and just pure disgust of kissing some one who smokes to some one who would eat a cockroach. what makes it even more effective is that the young girl is just a child. Would you really expose a child? your child to such a disgusting thing?  and your attention is focused on the child alone because it is a simple image with a plain background so there is nothing else for you to focus on to draw your attention away so you would not gain the full effect of the image.

This is an effective add because its shows just how hurtful verbal abuse can be and that YES its IS abuse even if you dont lay a hand on the other person.
